HEARTBREAK IN MONACO! |

Jiri Forman and newly crowned British Champion Oliver Rowland represented
the Zip Young Guns in the prestigious Monaco Cup in Monte Carlo. Both drivers
looking very strong all the way through practice and qualifying with Jiri
taking a superb 8th place on the grid and Oliver storming to pole position.
A crash eliminated Jiri from the first heat and his engine died and would
not restart at the beginning of heat two. This unfortunately meant that
the talented Czech driver would not advance to the finals. Oliver meanwhile
was flying. Winning both his heats in style he lined up on pole for the
pre-final. Oliver duly won the race and the excitement started to build
before the grand final. Last year, Oliver achieved the same feat by qualifying on pole, winning both heats and the pre-final only to be pipped at the post with a dying engine. Would he be able to lay the ghosts of what might have been to rest in 2007? The green light blinked on and Oliver immediately leapt into the lead. With the chasing pack tussling for position, it allowed the British Champion to pull out a small gap. With 6 laps to go, the lead had grown to around 2 seconds and Oliver looked in supreme form; no-one was going to catch him surely? 1 lap later and Oliver's Monaco jinx struck again. Still comfortably in the lead his new KF3 engine let go and he parked the kart at the side of the sun drenched track. Cruelly robbed of a deserved victory, Oliver cut a dejected figure as he wandered back to the pits. A great shame as this was to be his last race in juniors before he steps up to the senior KF2 class in 2008. |

"Thirty-six KF3 drivers from fourteen different countries took part in the 2nd annual Monaco Junior Grand Prix race. Briton, Oliver Rowland dominated the time trials. Drivering peerlessly, he repeated the performance in the qualifying heats and in the prefinal. Then, Oliver was quickest out of the starting blocks in the final. After three laps of yellow flags and go slow panels, Oliver started to fly and opened up a lead, but cruelly for him mechanical problems set in on the 18th lap and he was forced to drop out of the race. However, the explosive talent of Oliver was plain for all to see at Monaco and next season will doubtless find the British ICA Junior champion hogging the podium on the international scene."
